Description:

The Association for Molecular Pathology published the Body of Knowledge for the Clinical Bioinformatician, which is a three-part series created by dedicated working groups to outline the essential bioinformatics roles, responsibilities and competencies for professionals working in clinical molecular diagnostic laboratories. In this session, you will receive an introduction to the Body of Knowledge series in addition to learning about the clinical impact of bioinformatics in molecular diagnostics and precision medicine and how to apply the body of knowledge framework. This webinar will assist in differentiating the knowledge domains and competencies outlined in the series and discussing various requirements associated with clinical bioinformatics pipelines and computational infrastructure.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explain the clinical impact of bioinformatics in molecular diagnostics and precision medicine.
  • Differentiate the knowledge domains and competencies outlined in the AMP Clinical Bioinformatician Body of Knowledge (BoK).
  • Apply the BoK framework to workforce development, hiring, training, and competency assessment of clinical bioinformatics personnel.
  • Recognize the regulatory, data security, and quality management requirements associated with clinical bioinformatics pipelines and computational infrastructure.
