Germline Testing in Cancer Patients: Molecular Diagnostic Considerations and Clinical Implications
Germline Testing in Cancer Patients: Molecular Diagnostic Considerations and Clinical Implications
This contains the recorded webinar, slide handouts, and continuing education credit (CME and CMLE)This interactive live webinar is part 18 of the Emerging and Evolving Biomarkers Series.
Description:
Germline testing in cancer patients helps diagnose hereditary cancer susceptibility syndromes and enables appropriate surveillance measures, prophylactic interventions, and the identification of at-risk family members. Additionally, targeted therapies are now used in cancer patients who are germline carriers for pathogenic variants in genes such as BRCA1 and BRCA2. This webinar will address when genetic testing is indicated in cancer patients, laboratory considerations for genetic testing, identifying germline variants in tumor sequencing data, and the treatment implications of detecting germline pathogenic variants.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the clinical indications for germline testing in cancer patients.
- Describe when to consider that a variant detected on tumor sequencing may be germline in origin.
- Explain the clinical relevance of detecting germline pathogenic variants in cancer patients.
