Assessments of Somatic Variant Classification Using the AMP/ASCO/CAP Guidelines

Assessments of Somatic Variant Classification Using the AMP/ASCO/CAP Guidelines

This contains the webinar and continuing education credit (CME and CMLE)

Description:

This webinar is based on a new Report from the Association for Molecular Pathology, which assesses the clinical implementation of the 2017 AMP/ASCO/CAP “Standards and Guidelines for the Interpretation and Reporting of Sequence Variants in Cancer” guideline. The AMP Variant Interpretation Across Testing Laboratories (VITAL) Somatic Working Group was formed to better understand the implementation and utilization of the guideline among laboratories, assess concordance between laboratories, and identify content within the guidelines that may result in variant classification inconsistencies between laboratories. The project involved VITAL Somatic Challenges and an implementation survey. Opportunities for improvement to drive the adoption of the AMP/ASCO/CAP somatic variant classification system are discussed.

Learning Objectives:

      • Discuss the VITAL Somatic Challenge findings regarding the utilization of the AMP/ASCO/CAP variant classification guideline.
      • Discuss the AMP/ASCO/CAP guideline utilization survey findings regarding clinical laboratory implementation of the guideline.
      • Identify opportunities to improve the tier-based variant classification system content, implementation, and adoption
      • Evaluate areas for potential updates within the AMP/ASCO/CAP variant classification guideline revision currently in development.
